Flip a column in Excel with Kutools for Excel

If you want to do this easily and fast follow the following steps.
Step 1:

Install Kutools for Excel.(You will get a trail version for 45 days).Then you must see this in your excel

Step 2:

Select the coloum you need to flip.

Step 3: 

Go to Kutools>>Range Converter>>Flip Vertical Range. If you don’t get see the picture below.Its done.

How to draw a histogram in excel

If you want to do it fast,just follow the steps below.

Normally this is how your data looks like

Step1:

Click on Office button at the top left most corner then click on Excel options.

Step 2:

Click Add-Ins>>Analysis Toolpak>>click Go

Step 3:

Then a box opens up showing the add ins available.

Select Analysis Toolpak and click ok.

Step 4:

Then you give the bin values.See Picture for ex.

Step 5:

Go to Data>>Data Analysis>>Histogram.

Step 6:

Select the input,output,bin ranges  and click ok.Its done

How to take screen shot in windows 8 without using any software

If you want to take a quick screenshot, follow this

Step 1:

Open the screen that you need to take picture

Step 2:

Press Windows key +Print Screen (lies on top of keypad).

Step 3:

To open the picture, go to Pictures folder in library. Usually these are saved with name screenshot and in PNG type.

Conclusion: This is the easiest way I have ever found to take screen shot. After taking screen shot we can use some basic software’s and edit the picture.

How to check mac id of laptop

1)    Click on start menu.

2)    Click on run.

3)    Type cmd and press enter.

4)    At the command prompt

            a) If you are using windows type the command  getmac and press enter. Check your mac id which is listed under physical address. Look at picture  below.            

                                                      OR

                b) Otherwise type the command ipconfig/all and  press enter.  Check your mac  which  is listed  under physical address of Ethernet adapter Ethernet. Look at picture below.

Good News to All Facebook Users. Now Admin of a page in Facebook can Schedule a Status  that is to be Shared between 10 minutes and 6 months.

Follow these Steps to Schedule Facebook Page Status:

1.      Login with your Facebook account.

2.      Then click on your Facebook Page.

3.      Now click on Status and Type your Status.

4.      Click on Clock Icon and then Click on Calendar  where you can Set Date and Time. Then Click on 'Schedule Post'.

5.       Then the message will popup showing that “Your Post Has Been Scheduled”.

6.       By Clicking on ‘Activity Log’ you can Reschedule status and also you can Edit.

Good News to All Facebook Users. Now Admin of a page in Facebook can post Backdated Post that was already happened earlier.

Follow these Steps to Schedule Facebook Page Status:

1.      Login with your Facebook account.

2.      Then click on your Facebook Page.

3.      Now click on Status and Type your Status.

4.      Click on Clock Icon and then Click on Calendar  where you can Set Date and Time. Then Click on 'Schedule Post'. Later select 'Backdate Post'.

5. Then Set Year, Date and Time of your Status. Here you can set the Location too.

6. Now click on 'Post' then you can see your backdated status.

Introduction to Data Streams

Data Base: A database is a collection of information organized in such a way that a computer program can easily  desired pieces of data. That is, all our data is available when and if we want it.

For example, modelling  the availability of rooms in hotels in a way that supports finding a hotel with vacancies.

Data Mining: It is the computational process of discovering patterns in large data sets.The overall goal of the data mining process is to extract information from a data set and transform it into an understandable structure for further use.

Now, statisticians view data mining as the construction of a statistical model.

Database management systems (DBMS):

They are  software applications that interact with the user to  analyze data. Popular  DBMSs include MySQL,    PostgreSQL,   Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, SAP HANA, dBASE, FoxPro, IBM DB2.

Data Streams:

Data arrives in a stream or streams, and if it is not processed immediately or stored, then it is lost forever. Moreover,

we shall assume that the data arrives so rapidly that it is not feasible to store it all in active storage (i.e., in a conventional database), and then interact with it at the time of our choosing.

Conventional databases typically consist of many tables, each of which is composed of a number of columns.

Data stream management system:

A Data stream management system (DSMS) is a computer program to manage continuous data streams. It is similar to a database management system (DBMS), which is, however, designed for static data in conventional databases.

Classification Using Nearest Neighbours

This is generally called as  k Nearest Neighbourhood (kNN) method. This classification mainly works on the maxim “birds of a feather flock together”. That is things that are alike have features (properties) that are alike. We use this idea in nearest neighbour classification and place a new data with the class (category) having similar features or nearest neighbour.

We just classify the unlabelled class of new data to the class which is nearest. Even the idea of classification is simple, they are extremely powerful and can be used for

1) Predicting a person likes a movie or not

2) Predicting whether a person is a nationalist or communist (in INDIA)

3) Checking whether a tumour is malignant or not.

When to choose kNN method:

We use this method when the relationship between the features and the target class is complicated or extremely difficult to understand. Or when we are dealing BIG DATA AND HIGH DIMENSIONAL DATA where its extremely difficult to understand the relationships. Or when the relations are difficult to express but can be visualized.

When there is no clear distinction between the groups(classes) this method is not recommended.

The kNN Algorithm:

Usually we have two data sets one is training data set and other is test data set. In training data set we will be having the class group of each data point. We have to classify each data point of test data set. For each data point of test data set we look at the ‘k’ nearest neighbours in the training data set and classify it to the majority class. Note that here k is prefixed before classification.

In the next post we shall see how to choose ‘k’ value.

Linearly Independence and Dependence.

Linearly independent vectors:

A set of vectors {v1,v2,..vN}are said to be linearly independent if  a1v1+a2v2+...aNvN  = 0  implies  ai=0 for all i=1,2,...N. Otherwise they are said to be linearly dependent vectors.

Example:

1) Consider the vector space V=R over R.

 Here {1} , {2} , {100001} are all some linearly independent sets.

 One can check that {1,5} , {1,2} , {0,1} are not linearly independent sets.

2) Consider the vector space V=R2 over R

 Here {(1,0),(0,1)} , {(1,0),(1,1)} are some linearly independent sets.

 One can check that {(1,0),(5,0)} , {(1,0),(0,0)} are not linearly independent.

Observe that when the set contains null vector,then the set is always a linearly dependent set.If one vector belongs to linear span of some other vector of the same set,then the set is linearly dependent set.The maximum number of linearly independent vectors in a finite dimensional spaces is equal to dimension of the vector space.

A set X is linearly independent if every finite number of vectors of set X are linearly independent.Otherwise linearly dependent.
